Durban poison weed strain is a South African landrace sativa strain that offers a focused and motivating high. The strain’s phenotype was first noticed by Americans first internal strain hunters, Ed Rosenthal in the late 1970s. He ran across this strain in Durban, South Africa during one of his expeditions. Ed Rosenthal shared some of these seeds with Mel Frank who modified the gene pool to increase resin content and decrease flowering time. This experiment of crossbreeding resulted in two distinct phenotypes, the “A” line, and the “B” line. The plant from the “A” line became what we know today as Durban poison. Line B was handed to Amsterdam breeder Dand Wilson who further reduced its growing time.
